There are great differences between carbon monoxide alarm and gas alarm, and many people often confuse the two. In fact, there is a large gap between the two. One is that the place where the carbon monoxide alarm is to be installed is accidentally installed with a gas alarm, and the place where the gas alarm should be installed is installed with a carbon monoxide alarm, which will cause huge losses to everyone's life and property.
The carbon monoxide alarm is used to detect carbon monoxide gas (CO). It cannot be used to detect methane (CH4) and other alkanes. The gas alarm is used to detect natural gas, which is the main component of methane gas. It is used to detect the explosion and carbon monoxide is used to detect the toxicity. The types of sensors are different. The catalytic combustion sensor is used for gas and the electrochemical sensor is used for carbon monoxide.
At present, the gas alarm on the market can usually be used to detect natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas or coal gas, and the urban pipeline gas is usually one of these three gases. The main components of these gases are alkanes such as methane (C4H4), which is characterized by a choking odor. When the concentration of these combustible gases in the air is higher than a certain standard, it will cause explosion. The gas alarm detects this explosive alkane gas, which cannot be used to detect carbon monoxide gas.
City pipeline coal-to-gas is a relatively special gas, which contains both CO and alkanes. Therefore, if only the leakage of pipeline gas is detected, it can be detected with carbon monoxide alarm or gas alarm. However, if it is necessary to detect whether the pipeline natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas or coal gas produces excessive carbon monoxide gas during combustion, it is necessary to use a carbon monoxide alarm to detect. In addition, the carbon monoxide gas (CO) generated by heating with coal stove and burning coal is not methane (CH4) and other alkanes. So carbon monoxide alarm should be used instead of gas alarm. It is useless to install a gas alarm in the place where the coal stove is used for heating and burning. If a person is poisoned, the gas alarm will not sound. This is quite dangerous.
In general, if you want to detect toxic gas and care about whether it will be toxic, you should select a carbon monoxide alarm. If you want to detect explosive gas, you are concerned about whether it will explode. The gas alarm is selected. Whether there is any leakage in the pipeline, it is generally enough to use a gas alarm.
